About QELCA®

Quality End of Life Care for All (QELCA®) is a respected, internationally recognised programme that originated at St. Christopher’s Hospice. It equips learners from all disciplines with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to improve the care of people and families during their end-of-life journey.

    • 2 practical practice experience days in a hospice setting

Who Should Attend?

This programme is ideal for any non-specialist palliative care providers or those in the community who wish to develop their knowledge and skills around providing quality end-of-life care. This includes anyone working in a setting where they are going to come across people who are approaching the end of life.

The programme is ideally delivered to learners from the same sending organisation, with a maximum of 8 participants on each intake.

  • Practical skills for symptom management and recognising dying
  • How to confidently have meaningful conversations about death, dying, and patient wishes
  • How to critically use tools and frameworks such as the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) and ReSPECT
  • Strategies to prioritise people at end of life and support families effectively
  • How to implement change within your setting to improve quality and compassion

Course Details

Duration: 5 days total (3 Classroom + 2 Hospice Practice days – these can be spread over 2 or 3 weeks) + 6 monthly Action Learning sessions over 6 months

Fee: The ICB recognise that financial constraints are inhibiting both the delivery and access to high quality education and have therefore agreed to fund a limited amount of programme intakes for this programme.
